Taos Summer’s Last Licks
As August comes to an end, summer vibes in Taos subtly start to fade away. Soon, it’ll be back to school with backpacks and pencils, and cooler weather in the high desert and mountain towns. We’re reflecting on those sunny days exploring Taos Plaza, visiting the Taos Art Museum, and wandering the charming streets. Before those Pumpkin Spice Lattes make their return, let’s enjoy these last sunshine days. Summer is still here—so let’s make the most of it! We’ve gathered our tried and true favorites for a summer to-do list while you’re visiting us at El Pueblo Lodge.
The Ultimate Thrill: Whitewater Kayaking the Rio Grande
Whether you’re into golfing, fishing, horseback riding, or biking, Rio has something for everyone! But the ultimate thrill awaits in tackling the exciting whitecaps of the river. Plus, summer visitors will love the inviting, warm river temperatures – it’s just like a refreshing dip in bathwater!
Rio Grande Gorge Bridge
While you’re here, don’t miss the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge, affectionately called the High Bridge by locals; it’s the seventh-highest bridge in the United States, stretching roughly 1,280 feet across the Rio Grande Gorge, which is about 650 feet deep. The stunning views of the deep gorge, the winding river below, and the wide sky above make the bridge a popular spot for photographers, hikers, and travelers looking for adventure and natural beauty, drawing both locals and visitors back time and again.
Taos Pueblo
Travel back in time to one of the most secluded and traditional pueblos in Taos, home to a Tiwa-speaking Native American tribe of Puebloan people who still live here today. This thriving, authentic community offers handmade crafts for sale, and visitors can take guided tours of this historic site.
